At the beginning, you have to be aware that it's pretty hard to predict anything about an industry which is changing so fast, like web design does.
We can never know what is really going to become popular and appear as trend. But, considering new trends in last 2 years, there is a possibility that we can predict, even pretty correct, new trends in web design in general.
First prediction - Responsive web design
We had already wrote about responsive design here<link>. We already have growing popularity of responsive web design, mostly due to more and more mobile devices available on market. Since each device has different screen resolution, display size, etc. responsive design is a great way to overcome these problems, because of is ability to respond to the size and characteristics of the device which is used.
Responsive design makes work a lot easier to web designers, so this is another big plus for prediction that this trend will continue.
Second prediction - Typography
Choosing a typography for a website is not anymore a small decision. It's really possible that selecting trending typography is going to become more and more popular, and that this decision is going to become more important than it is now.
So we can expect less and less beautiful images on websites, and instead of them nice and pretty text.
Third prediction - Vertical scrolling
Considering bigger popularity of mobile devices and their use for Internet surfing, it's pretty realistic that websites are going to be more "mobile friendly". What this means?
Well, these days, mobile users still have to scroll and vertically and horizontally while browsing a website. That's why it's expected that more and more websites are going to be created, so users on mobile devices can scroll only vertically, what will make their browsing much easier.
Fourth prediction - Big buttons
Again, because of more and more mobile devices with touch screen possibility, use of big pretty buttons has realistic chances to become trend in 2013. Huge or big buttons were, and they are still used for making websites look more beautiful. It's really possible that big buttons are going to be trend, but now mostly cause they are simple and user friendly. Of course, more buttons means more graphics, and this leads into slower loading of websites.
